Paintings of Rajasthan

Rajasthan Tour Travel > Culture > Paintings of Rajasthan

Rajasthan is  known as the land of colours and is also known as the world's richest center for arts & crafts. The life of the people of Rajasthan remained full of struggle against its vagaries. Perhaps to offset these travails the Rajasthani people have displayed more velour and zest for life and thus expressed their feelings in bold colors and lilting rhythms.
The tradition of painting here goes back to the dawn of civilization. Evidences of earth colour drawings have been discovered on the walls and ceilings of rock shelters along the rivers in Eastern Rajasthan. Geometrical designs on clay potteries were unearthed in Harappan sites of north western Rajasthan.
